PURPOSE:To provide a lubricant for forging use which has good lubricating properties and good mold release and rustproofing properties of a processed metal product, and does not pollute a working environment by dissolving or dispersing aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid (salts) and tannic acid in water. CONSTITUTION:At least one compound selected from among aliphatic carboxylic acids (e.g. butanetetracarboxylic acid), aromatic carboxylic acids (e.g. trimellitic acid) and salts thereof and tannic acid are dissolved or dispersed in water. The aqueous solution or dispersion thus obtained as the principal constituent is compounded with a surfactant, a dispersant, a tackifier, an antiseptic agent, a defoaming agent and other additives, if required, to prepare a lubricant for forging use. The lubricant is applied to a forging mold at about 80-350 deg.C, whereby water is evaporated and remaining constituents mainly consisting of carboxylic acids form a film having good lubricating and mold release properties on the surface of the mold. |
