The optical detector arrangement for checking the presence and/or physical intactness of objects has at least one elongated body (3) supported so as to allow axial movement. Optical transmitter and receiver elements (9, 10) are optically connected together on both nodes or a channel (11) depending on the position of the body. Each transmitter-receiver element is coonnected to a comparator. A housing enclosing the mountings (5, 6) and optical elements (9, 10) can be moved in the axial direction of the body so as to approach the object being checked. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for checking for 20 items in each pack in a cigarette packaging machine using a simple reliable arrangement operable over long periods without maintenance of repair.
