PURPOSE:To obtain the title foam useful as shock absorbing material, vibration- deadening material, etc., having excellent quality and shelf stability in a precured state by irradiating an epoxy compound with light rays in the presence of a photosensitive aromatic onium salt catalyst in a specific organic protonic solvent. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. epoxy compound containing one or more epoxy groups in one molecule (e.g. aromatic epoxy compound) is blended with 0.1-5 pts.wt., preferably 0.1-2 pts.wt. aromatic onium salt (e.g. compound shown by formula I or formula II) and 5-50 pts.wt., preferably 10-40 pts.wt. <=3C organic protonic solvent (e.g. methanol) as a blowing agent and irradiated with ultraviolet light rays to give the objective foam. Further addition of a surfactant (e.g. sorbitan fatty acid ester) or an alkoxysilane (e.g. mathyltriethoxysilane) as a blowing stabilizer to the blend gives high-quality foam. |
