PURPOSE:To inform an operator of the time required for processing a document from the number of documents by providing a means for detecting the number of the documents placed on the tray of an automatic document feeder. CONSTITUTION:The automatic document feeder 1 is provided with the tray 3 on which the document 2 is placed, a semilunar feeding roller 4 for feeding the document 2, and a separation and conveyance part 5 which separates the document 2 one by one and conveys it in a direction shown by an arrow A, then the document fed in the direction A is copied. Furthermore, a side fence 6 and a side plate 7 which guide both sides of the document 2 placed on the tray 3 are provided and a thickness detecting device 8 for detecting the thick ness of the bundle of documents is provided on the plate 7 side. Then, a display part for displaying the time required for processing the document by the use of liquid crystal, etc., is provided in the document feeder 1. By depressing a copying start button, the document 2 is fed and the thickness of the document is known, so that a waiting time is displayed almost simultaneously with the start of copying and a user is informed of a processing time. |
