The closure system is for a container. It has a lid associated with a container opening wherein the raised opening edge and the bent up lid edge form an outside flange and are tensioned together by a tension ring designed as a closed endless plastics ring (9) with a cap profiled (10) which can be inverted onto the outer flange (7,4) of the lid and opening edges (6,3). The outer arm (11) of the cap section (10) has a tension bead (12) which engages over the outer flange (4) of the opening edge (3). The tension bead (12) pref. runs into an outwardly protruding peripheral flap (13). The cap section (10) can have a longitudinal or transversely aligned weak spot provided with a tear-off strip. USE/ADVANTAGE - A strong closure for a continer is formed with the plastics ring protecting the closure against stress and impacts.
