PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction method which can easily rebuild an existing house into a house with a roof floor in a relatively short construction period, and improves the habitability of the house after rebuilding, and to provide a roof floor material which is suitable for use in the construction. SOLUTION: The construction method includes a roof removing step, a framing step, a folded plate mounting step, a bearing stand mounting step, and a roof floor material laying step. In the roof removing step, a roof of the existing house is removed and beams 2 are exposed. In the framing step, square timbers 4 are assembled into a frame. In the folded plate mounting step, folded plates 10 corrugated in cross section are arranged and mounted on the frame without clearances. In the bearing stand mounting step, a bearing stand 12 for the roof floor material is mounted on the folded plates 10. In the roof floor material laying step, the roof floor material 13 is laid on the bearing stand 12. The roof floor material 13 has a plate-like first hanging portion 13a which is formed at one edge thereof, and a second hanging portion 13b which is formed at the other edge thereof. The second hanging portion 13b has a groove whose bottom surface is almost the same in level as a lower edge of the first hanging portion 13a.
