The arrangement is for the catalytic cleaning of exhaust gases from an IC engine. The catalyses has a metal housing containing a monolithic catalyst-carrying body with an intermediate layer of ceramic fibre material in the form of a mat between the housing and the body. The mat (5) has a gas-resisting strengthening strip (6) at its front side edge directed towards the gas inlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Catalytic cleaner for a vehicle exhaust system in which the scavenging of the ceramic material by the aggressive exhaust gases from the engine is avoided.
