PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of semicontinuous extraction of nicotine by supplying a solvent to the first end of an extraction system contg. tobacco and executing the discharge of extracted tobacco and the preparation of unextracted tobacco while taking the nicotine-contg. solvent out of a second end. CONSTITUTION: The tobacco contg. about 30wt.% moisture is loaded into extraction vessels 10, 11 having a height of 1 to 5 times the diameter. Next, the solvent, such as CO2 , in a supercritical state, is passed and circulated through the vessels 10, 11 at a rate of 0.1 to 2 feet/minute via a pump 16 and a heat exchanger 17 at a ratio of the total pass solvent mass/the mass of the cigarette = 75 to 300/1 to the tabacco, by which the nicotine is extracted. Next, the solvent past the vessel 11 is passed through a capturing vessel 15, by which the nicotine is captured. The solvent from which the nicotine is decreased is returned to the vessel 10. Such one-cycle is operated alternately with the cycles of the vessels 12, 13, 14, by which the discharge and replenishment of the extracted solvent, the removal of the extracted tobacco, the loading of the unextracted tobacco, etc., are operated and the tobacco of about 97% in the decrease rate of the nicotine is recovered. |
