In a method and a device for cleaning a filter of a spinning machine, provision is made for a suction-air flow generated by means of a blower to flow through the filter during normal operation. Means for changing over the flow paths are provided, so that, during a cleaning operation, an air flow directed opposite to the suction-air flow flows through the filter and is deflected to a waste-collecting container. Provision is made for this cleaning to be carried out automatically by changing over the air flow whenever there is an interruption in the operation of the spinning machine.
