The invention relates to devices for dispensing obnoxius chemicals to ward off attack by a would-be assailant. Prior art devices are overly complicated and/or have the potential problem of inadvertent operation. The present invention provides an improved anti-assault device which is not readily discernible as such. The device is easily activated yet safe from accidental activation without the need for manually-operated safety lock assemblies. The anti-assault device of this invention consists of a sealed, rupturable vial (20), a base (8) with one set of resilient fingers (16) to retain the vial and a second set (18) to support the cover (22), wherein the cover has a skirt (30) containing projections (36, 38) which rest upon and engage the second set of resilient fingers and has means (40, 42, 44, 46) for rupturing the vial. The cover has rupturing means on the rear face so that when force is exerted against the front face of the cover the rupturing means rupture the vial. This causes a foul smelling repulsive chemical contained therein to be released and to repel a would-be attacker. |
