PURPOSE:To keep a uniform layer of abrasive grains filled and scattered between a workpiece and a lapping face at all times and enable the high-precision spherical machining of the workpiece by providing a grain removal hole at the intersection of radial and concentric grooves on the lapping face. CONSTITUTION:A surface plate rotation machine 10 is rotated and the rotary driving shaft 3 of a support frame 2 is rotated, thereby turning a slewing arm 5 about the center of said shaft 3. In this state, a workpiece 8 rolls along the recessed spherical part 92 of a surface plate 9 and is lapped by abrasive grains filled and scattered in said recessed spherical part 92. And the spherical surface of the surface plate 9 is transcribed and generated on the workpiece 8. In this case, even if the workpiece 8 is an incomplete spherical body, the abrasive grains filled and scattered in the recessed spherical part 92 of the surface plate 9 are discharged from the abrasive grain discharge hole 95 thereof, and an abrasive grain layer between the recessed spherical part 92 and the workpiece 8 is kept constant. As a result, the transcription of the recessed spherical part 92 upon the workpiece 8 can be generated with high precision. |
