The object of the invention is an instrument for cleaning the teeth, which instrument comprises a frame part 1. An area 2 for dental floss 3 formed within the frame part and, situated at one end of the frame part, floss holders 4,5, at the end of which, and between the end and the other floss holder, fixing grooves 6,7 are formed for attaching the dental floss. In the current instruments the floss is not held taut during cleaning of the teeth. In accordance with the invention, the fixing grooves are principally wedge-shaped grooves. <IMAGE>
