PURPOSE:To decrease picture quality deterioration in all directions by selecting and outputting a luminance signal and a chroma signal from plural Y/C separating circuits based on the correlation output of all directions of a vertical direction, a horizontal direction and a slanting direction. CONSTITUTION:A complex video signal COMP 1 sampled by the 4 times as much as the frequency of a color sub-carrier frequency is added to a horizontal vertical correlation type Y/C separating circuit 1 and a slanting correlation type Y/C separating circuit 2. The horizontal vertical correlation type Y/C separating circuit 1 includes a frequency separating circuit 5 and a comb-line filter separating circuit 6, and in the case of the horizontal correlation, the Y/C separating signal of the frequency separating circuit 5 is selected and in the case of the vertical correlation, the Y/C separating signal of the comb-line filter separating circuit 6 is selected. On the other hand, the slanting correlation detecting type Y/C separating circuit 2 selects the Y/C separating signal of a slanting correlation separating circuit 10 in the case of the slanting correlation and selects the Y/C separating signal of a comb-line filter separating circuit 9 and sends it to a switching circuit 7 when the slanting correlation does not exist.
