PURPOSE:To enable the proper exposure and photography of a monitor image by measuring light corresponding to the quantity of film exposure, switching the monitor image from an input image to a black image in response to the detection of the proper exposure, and switching the monitor image back to the original input image after a shutter is closed. CONSTITUTION:When a monitor photographic device is in nonphotographic mode, a video signal inputted through a video input terminal, i.e. a video signal obtained through the image pickup operation of an image pickup element provided to the tip art of an endoscope is inputted to a display controller 14 through a display changeover switch 12 to display an endoscope on a CRT (cathode-ray tube) monitor 15. This display image is incident on a mirror shutter 20 through an image pickup lens 21 and a halfprism 22 and the image reflected by the mirror shutter 20 can be observed through a prism 24 and an ocular 25. If a release signal is inputted at timing t1 in this observation state, a timer 19 is set. Consequently, the monitor image can be photographed with proper exposure.
