PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the titled compound useful for surfactants, surface-treating agents and various derivatives, by reacting a polyfluoroalcohol with a specific amount of polyphosphoric acid. CONSTITUTION:A polyfluoroalcohol expressed by the formula RfOH [Rf represents 4-36C polyfluoroalkyl wherein at least two hydrogen atoms are substituted with fluorine atoms (F)] (example; tridecafluorooctanol, etc.) is reacted with a polyphosphoric acid in an amount of 100-116wt% calculated in terms of orthophosphoric acid, preferably at 50-80 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula. The reaction period depends on the reaction temperature and for example the reaction period of >=7hr is sufficient at 70 deg.C.
