Filter material for separating off particles and process for producing the same

A filter material is described for separating off particles having a diameter < about 100 mu m from a fluid stream, in particular a hot gas stream, which filter material has a fibre-containing support material (3), furnished with cavities (9), and a filter medium layer (2) arranged thereon on one side. In this case, the filter medium layer (2) includes a three-dimensionally crosslinked silicone elastomer layer which, at least at some of its area of contact with the support material (3), is incorporated into the cavities (9) situated on the surface of the said support material and has a multiplicity of labyrinth pores (4). The process for producing the filter material provides that a sheet material comprising the support material is singed, is then fixed by a first heat treatment and then a liquor is applied on one side to the support material. In this case, this liquor contains a non-three dimensionally crosslinked polymeric siloxane, a crosslinking catalyst and a crosslinker. After applying the liquor, a second heat treatment is performed to crosslink the polymeric siloxane. <IMAGE>
