PURPOSE:To limit incoming call to an absent subscriber by connecting an incoming call to a subscriber who has registered his or her absence to a speech synthesizer and sending out a message to the caller when the subscriber has registered the absence. CONSTITUTION:When a subscriber C originates and dials the subscriber number 201 of a subscriber A, a CPU 5 retrieves absence registration information in a main memory device MM 6, and the CPU 5 finds an extension on a main switch(SW) 3 stored with the subscriber number 201 and connects a path 1 to call a general telephone set(STA) 1 unless the subscriber A registers absence. If the subscriber A registers absence previously, the CPU 5 retrieves the MM 6 to confirm that the subscriber A has registered absence and is absent, thereby connecting a path 2. Then, the CPU 5 instructs a speech synthesizer(SS) 4 to send out a message and the STA 2 hears an absence message from SS 4 through the path 2 of the SW 3. Consequently, the incoming call to the extension of the absent subscriber who has registered the absence can be limited.
