PURPOSE:To attain efficient magnetic recording/reproduction by adopting an electromagnetic conversion characteristic suitable for the magnetic recording density of each recording medium so as to attain the recording and reproduction of information in using plural magnetic recording media having different recording density. CONSTITUTION:In recording information with a high magnetic density by the vertical magnetic storage system, a controller 8 outputs signals WG, ED and WD, the information recorded on a disk is erased by a magnetic head 2 and new information is recorded on a magnetic head 3. In the case of reproduction, the controller 8 outputs signals WG, RS, which are reproduced by the head 3. In recording information by using the planar magnetic recording system, the controller 8 outputs signals TG, ED and WD, the head 2 writes the new information on the preceding information overlappingly, and both ends of the recorded information are erased by an erasure head 4. In reproducing the recording information, the controller 8 outputs signals TG, RS and the head 2 reproduces them.
