A label-printing appliance contains a stock tape or carrier tape (3) with labels (4) adhering releasably thereto, furthermore a printer having a printing abutment (8), and a feed device (5) for the stock tape (3) which moves the latter through between the printer and printing abutment (8) in the feed direction. A detaching edge (10) for the labels (4) is arranged behind the printing abutment (8). At the same time, there is provided for the labels (4) a press-on device (11) which either is out of use or is movable into the position of use and which has a holding-down device (12) with press-on elements (14 and 15) for the labels (4), which holding-down device (12) is arranged, in the position of use, in a stationary manner near the detaching edge (10) at a short distance, leaving a passage gap (13) free between it and the detaching edge (10) and secures the respective label (4) on the detaching edge (10) and around the detaching edge (10) in adhesive connection with the carrier tape (3). Thus, depending on the position of the movable press-on device (11), after printing, the labels (4) can be secured on their carrier tape (3) and kept in stock or else be dispensed immediately at the detaching edge (10) and taken off for use, when the press-on device (11) is located outside its position of use. <IMAGE>
