PURPOSE:To decrease a step settling time without deteriorating the step accuracy, by a method wherein an inertia body is loosely fitted to a rotor of a PM type stepping motor and friction generated by side pressure of the inertia body and the rotor. CONSTITUTION:To a rotor 1 of a PM type stepping motor is loosely fitted with an inertial body 7 so as to rapidly damp the resonance vibration of the rotor 1 with internal friction system. In a portion where damping cannot be significantly improved by the loose fitting only, one end is fixed to the inertia body 7 and the rotor 1 is actively pressed by a spring member 8 on free end, thereby the internal friction torque is generated to the rotor 1 using both friction due to the pressing by the spring member 8 and friction generated by side pressure of the inertia body 7 and the rotor 1 due to reaction of the spring member 8.
