Magnetic pilot expansion valve system and method.

An expansion valve system which includes an expansion valve having an inlet port, an outlet port, and a passage between the inlet and outlet ports for fluid communication therebetween. A valve assembly is at least partially disposed in the passage between the inlet and outlet ports for controlling the amount of fluid flow between the ports, which valve assembly includes a pressure responsive control element. A magnetic pilot is included for supplying a regulated pressure differential to the pressure responsive control element, which pressure differential is substantially independent of changes in fluid pressure at the inlet and outlet ports of the expansion valve. A method of controlling the flow rate of fluid through such an expansion valve system is also disclosed.
