A description is given of a steering axle for tractors usable for agriculture, in particular for narrow-track tractors, which steering axle comprises an axle support 1 bearing the wheels and an axle-core housing 2 arranged at least approximately centrally with respect to the axle support 1. In particular in the case of narrow-track tractors, the axle-core housing 2 forms an obstacle limiting the maximum steering angle alpha of the wheels 5 because of the small length of the axle support 1. In order to increase the maximum steering angle alpha the axle-core housing 2 has two lateral constrictions 17 in the region where the tyres 5a of the wheels 5 directly approach the axle-core housing 2, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the housing and corresponding to the desired maximum steering angle alpha , the constrictions 17 being matched at least approximately in their position, size and shape to the outer contour of the tyres 5a.
