[Also in Division F2] In a method of moulding and curing a belt with a convex outer surface, an uncured belt body 30 of trapezoidal cross-section having strength cords 29 parallel to its outer surface is located in a slightly larger mould cavity provided between abuting rings 19a, 19b and is surrounded by a jacket 18. The assembly is placed within a curing chamber to which steam under pressure supplied and, since the body extends slightly outwardly of its cavity and includes an innermost portion 31 of relatively soft material e.g. a material containing a blowing agent, the outermost belt surface and the layer of coils 29 takes the shape shown in Fig. 3. After removal from the mould the portion 31 of the belt may be removed to provide a concave inner surface. |
