Highly basic calcium sulphonates are obtained by (a) carbonating a reaction mixt. contg. a sulphonic acid or alkaline earth metal sulphonate (I), Ca(OH)2 (II), a hydrocarbon solvent (III), a 1-3 C alcohol (IV) and water (V), at 20-35 (pref. 20-30) degrees c, (b) removing the volatiles, and (c) obtaining the prod. by filtration. The amt. of (V) in the reaction mixt. is 4-35 (pref. 8-25) wt.% based on the wt. of (II), and a stoichiometric excess (pref. 5-50 wt.%) of (II) is used. The prod. has acceptable solubility even in highly paraffinic mineral lubricating oils. The presence of added water (cf. US 3830239) results in faster filtration rates.
|
