PURPOSE:To contrive a smaller printer and higher printing quality, by a system wherein an ink part of an ink ribbon which has been rewound can be used in forward printing, and rewinding of the used ink part is not conducted in the final backward stroke in the number of times the ribbon can be used for printing. CONSTITUTION:The ink ribbon 10 is used for printing by a printing head 24 in a foward stroke of a carriage 22, and the ink part paid out from a payout core 12 is taken up by a take-up core 13 in the printing operation. In a backward stroke, the ink part used in the forward printing and taken up by the take-up core 13 is rewound onto the payout core 12, and in the next forward stroke, the ink part used in printing in the preceding line is again used. This procedure is based on the use of an ink ribbon 10 which can be used plural times for printing, and the operations are repeated a set number of times. In the final backward stroke, the ribbon 10 is not rewound on the payout core 12. |
