The invention relates to a device for securing manhole covers (11) to a manhole wall (24) in a sewer manhole or the like. The securing device contains roller bodies (14) which lock by wedge action between the manhole wall (24) and one or more keyways (15) at the periphery of the cover and are each fastened to the cover by a spring member (17) which, when the cover is attached, acts upon the roller body (14) with a spring force (F) directed towards the end of the keyway (15). The cover can be removed by means of a tool (19) which can be inserted into an opening (18) in the top part (12) of the cover. <IMAGE>
