1,259,713. Automatic slack adjusters. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 4 Dec., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 59278/69. Heading F2E. An automatic slack adjuster for a disc brake having an actuating piston 4 comprises an adjusting spindle 1 on which is screwed a nut 11, a sleeve 9 sliding on the nut and having an inclined slot 21 in which slides a pin 20 kept engaged with the slot by a spring 19 anchored to the sleeve, and a resilient ring deformable in the radial direction is interposed between grooves 5, 2 of piston 4 and a member 13 respectively. The ring provides a breakable engagement between the device and piston 4 when the ring is deformable inwardly over the chamfered edge 6 of groove 5 or a chamfer of groove 2 to prevent damage of the device when the adjusting stroke is exceeded. A locking device comprises a keeper spring 12 an end of which is received in a groove of the sleeve 9 and provides a clearance between brake lining 14 and a brake disc corresponding to a distance "S", the spring locking the sleeve when the clearance is exceeded. Simultaneously nut 11 is turned on the spindle 1 via pin 20 to provide a small adjustment step. Mechanical actuation is provided by a shaft 24 recessed to accommodate a rod 25 and which moves spindle 1. |
