Blood stabilization with cellulose ester - salts

Blood is stabilised by binding the calcium with insoluble salts of acidic cellulose esters of polybasic organic and/or inorganic acids; prefd. salts include Na salts of cellulose esters of polybasic cafboxylic acids, the Na salt of the cellulose mixed ester with phosphoric and citric acids, the sodium-tripaflavin mixed salt of cellulose hydrogen phosphate and the sodium-levomycetin mixed salt of cellulose hydrogen phosphate. Preservatives are pref. introduced into the blood after the calcium has been removed. The stabilisation method has practically no effect on blood composn.; apart from almost complete removal of Ca, there are only reductions in the amounts of thrombocytes, K and Mg.
