PURPOSE:To equalize recording and reproducing characteristics between each magnetic head so as to improve the reliability of a multi-element type magnetic head, by providing curvatures in the running direction of a recording medium and in another direction intersecting the recording medium on the magnetic recording medium contacting surface of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A multi-element type magnetic head 1 is provided with a curvature represented by R1 in the running direction of a recording medium 2 and another curvature R2 represented by R2 in another direction intersecting the recording medium 2 on the magnetic recording medium contacting surface. The radius of the curvature R1 is set at 3-300mm., desirably at 5-20mm.. The radius of the curvature R2 is determined in accordance with the length W in the direction (x) of the multi-element type magnetic head 1 and set at 10-3,000mm., desirably at 50-1,000mm. when 4<W<13mm.. When the radii of curvatures R1 and R2 are set within these ranges, the recording and reproducing characteristics between each magnetic head can be equalized and a highly reliable multi-element type magnetic head can be constituted. |
