The invention relates to a freely forepoling so-called flat-hook mat in which, through appropriate design of the locking members, early load bearing at high yielding capacity by form change but with reliable locking is achieved by the bent portion of the other lagging mat, which bent portion is embraced by the hairpin-like hook of the lagging mat, being extended by a trough part essentially parallel to the extent of the longitudinal wire of the mat and by its loosely carrying the transverse element at a distance from the bent portion, in which arrangement a bent portion, during load bearing, ensures that the free end of the leg of the hook is bent down behind the transverse element.
