In typewriters or similar office machines, it is known, for example, to use either a separate drive element in each case or a common drive motor for a plurality of drive functions. Changing the function in a common drive motor is possible according to the prior art by reversing the direction of rotation of the drive motor or by actuating interposed couplings. The invention is based on the object of providing a common drive device for different functions in typewriters or similar office machines which is not very complex and allows a simple and space-saving construction. This object is achieved in that the stator and the rotor (11) of a stepping motor (12) can be blocked or driven alternately either on a first or on a second drive device for selective transmission of the energy supplied by the motor (12). Since different functions can be driven via the stator and the rotor (11) of the same stepping motor (12), an inexpensive drive device is provided. <IMAGE>
