PURPOSE:To facilitate the adjustment of backlash by moving one of two gears which are engaged in a common plane on a line which is intersecting at a certain angle the line which passes through the rotational centers of both the gears. CONSTITUTION:One of the gears 1, 2 is moved in the direction of either arrow C or D on a line L2 which is intersecting at an angle theta in a common plane relative to a line L1 passing through the rotational centers O1, O2 of the gears 1, 2 in order to adjust the backlash between the gears 1, 2. When the gear 1 is moved in the direction of arrow C, the backlash becomes smaller, and when moved in the direction of arrow D, the backlash becomes greater. Suppose X is the amount of movement of the gear 1 and y is the change in the distance between the rotational centers O1, O2 of both the gears, y=Xcostheta which is smaller than X.
