PURPOSE:To provide a surface activating agent which removes effectively the oils, stains and oxide film covering the surface of a metallic material by contg. the resultant product of chemical reaction obtd. by mxing >=1 kind of aliphat. org. compd. contg. Br as one of constituting elements and >=1 kind of aliphat. or arom. amines at a prescribed ratio. CONSTITUTION:>=1 kind of a group A conisting of CH3CH2Br, CH2BrCH2Br, CHBr2CHBr2 and >=1 kind of a group B consisting of C6H7N, C7H9N, C8H11N, C10H15N are mixed in a 1/9-9/1 range by weight. The resultant product of chemical reaction obtd. by the mixing is incorporated as a main activating material, by which an intended surface activating agent for metallic material is obtd. The surface activating agent is water soluble and any resultant product of chemical reaction has no difference from each other in terms of rust prevention or rust preventive power. This surface activating agent is incorporated with bromine without contg. chlorine to provide a rust preventive effect unlike many conventional fluxes for brazing.
