PURPOSE:To obtain an image high in contrast and low in fog by adding a specified compd. and iodide to a silver chloride emulsion contg. a rhodium salt. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble rhodium salt is added by using an inactive gelatin, etc. as a suspension medium in the process for forming silver halide grains contg. >=50mol% silver chloride, and a compd. represented by general formula I or II is added from the grain forming process to the chemical sensitizing process just before the start of sulfur sensitization, and a water-soluble iodide is added from the grain forming process to the end of the chemical sensitizing process. In formula I and II, Z1 is thiazole, selenazole, oxazole, or imidazole, each optionally having a condensed ring; Z2 is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary for completing a 5- or 6-membered hetero ring; X1, X2 are each O, S, Se, or N-RO; Y is O or S; R1, R2, R5, R6 are each lower alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl; R3 is H or same as R1; and (n) is 0 or 1. |
