PURPOSE:To obtain an element having high sensitivity by using a Josephson junction by forming sections for drawing out photodetecting signals in the mutual opposite directions along the first straight line of a beam irradiating section in a polycrystalline oxide superconductor layer and sections for supplying bias currents in the opposite directions along the second straight line orthogonal to the first straight line. CONSTITUTION:A polycrystalline oxide superconductor layer 2 is deposited and formed on an insulating substrate 1, and Josephson junctions 4 are shaped on the grain boundaries of the layer 2. A beam irradiating section 11 is formed to the layer 2, and sections 12A, 12B for drawing out photodetecting signals mutually extended in width Wy in the opposite directions are formed along the first straight line LY passing through the irradiating section 11. Sections 13A, 13B for supplying bias currents mutually extended in the opposite direction are shaped along the second straight line LX in width Wx passing at a right angle with the line Ly from the irradiating section 11. The layer 2 is constituted of BaPb1-xBix O3 (0.05<=x<=0.35), a detecting element is constituted by using the Josephson junctions 4, and the sensitivity of the detecting element is increased.
