The invention relates to a flat slide valve having a slide-valve plate which is guided at right angles to the flow channel in a slide-valve housing and consists of plate halves which can slide in a sealed manner on one another, can move counter to one another, bound the slide-valve through-opening, in the open position, with the recesses which are arranged in mirror-image form with respect to one another, and close the flow channel, in the mutually intersecting closed position, with their base sections. Provided for the slide-valve plate is an operating device which permits a low construction and ensures ease of operation. This operating device has a worm shaft which is supported in the slide-valve housing on the one narrow side of the two plate halves and has two contrarotating worms which engage with the two plate halves which, for this purpose, are constructed on their narrow sides facing the worms as toothed rods which engage with the respectively associated worm.
