The invention relates to an apparatus for cleaning bottles (1) which pass through a lye bath (20) in their transport containers (2) and are then turned through 180 DEG by a guideway (6) and guided, upside-down, through cleaning stations (16) and, if necessary, through drying stations in such a way that the bottles (1) slip out of their transport containers (2) only up to a point where the bottle openings (111) rest on frustoconical fixing rings (7) and are centred in these conical fixing rings (7) in a simple way. These fixing rings (7) are fastened to transverse bars (18) between the transport chains (3) so as to be able to pivot in pivot bearings (17) in such a way that both precise centring of the bottles (1) in the cleaning stations (16) and problem-free release of the cleaned bottles (1) at the end of the cleaning apparatus, which works trouble-free and preserves the bottles, is ensured. <IMAGE>
