A method of cultivating a plant (1) hydroponically wherein the root system (12) is induced to develop in the form of two or more separate portions and wherein each portion (12) is supplied with one or more separate nutrient solutions. For example, the plant may be grown in a hydroponic gully (4) having separate channels (7, 8) for the supply of the nutrient solutions. The resulting plant (1) has an enhanced degree of cross-linkage in its vascular tissues. A novel propagation pocket (2) of hydrophilic absorbent sheet material is also described, suitable for locating a plant (1) on a dividing wall (3) between said channels (7, 8). |
