PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrocarbon having a high utilization value, e.g. ethylene or butadiene, efficiently in high yield by easy operations, by diluting acetylene with a saturated hydrocarbon, e.g. ethane, and thermally decomposing the acetylene. CONSTITUTION:Acetylene is diluted with a >=2C, preferably 2-6C, saturated hydrocarbon, e.g. propane or butane, and then thermally decomposed to prepare a useful hydrocabron, e.g. propylene, benzene or toluene. The acetylene is diluted to give <=50% concentration thereof. The thermal decomposition temperature is 700-900 deg.C, preferably 800-900 deg.C. |
