PURPOSE:To provide the titled odorant which has a high odorizing effect, is harmless to the human body, has an excellent soil penetrability and does not corrode supply systems, containing dihydrothiophene as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:An odorant for fuel gas consists of dihydrothiophene alone or a mixture therof with 0.1-50wt% mercaptan such as ethyl mercaptan and/or sulfide such as dimethyl sulfide. EFFECT:Dihydrothiophene has a scorched rubber odor at a high concn. and a keen coal gas odor at a low concn. though the detectable concn. of conventional mercaptans and sulfides is 30-50r/m<3>, that of dihydrothiophene alone is as low as 2-5r/m<3> and that of their mixture is 1r/m<3>. |
