<p>849 COUNTERCURRENT WASHER Apparatus and method of operation for countercurrent washing of wet finely divided solids comprising a vertical tank divided by transverse plates into a plurality of superimposed compartments, an opening in each plate, rake means in each compartment for scraping settled solids on the plate to the opening, inlet means in the uppermost compartment for introducing solids, an outlet from the bottom of the lowermost compartment for discharge of solids, a wash liquor inlet in a lower zone of the lowermost compartment, a wash liquor outlet port in the uppermost compartment for discharge and means for regulating the rate of introduction of both solids and wash liquor. Various modifications are disclosed for effecting downward transfer of solids between compartments, some of which include vertical tubular components depending from the opening in the tray.</p> |
