In this cutting tool (1) for the profile cutting of round timber (5), cutters (15) arranged spirally one behind the other at a distance apart are located on a curved tapered-circumference part (10) of a frustoconical tool head (8) rotatable about an axis (3). The cutters (15) have a parallel cutting edge (19), directed perpendicularly to the axis (3) as well as parallel to the end face (12) of the tool head (8), and an angled cutting edge (20) cutting a chip length. To achieve simpler and more cost-effective manufacture and to reduce the tool heating, prolong the tool life and increase the cutting capacity, the tapered-circumference part (10) has a stepless outer surface (11) with a continuous straight generating line (14). Furthermore, the cutters (15) are designed in such a way and are arranged on the tapered-circumference part (10) in such a way that the angled cutting edge (20) runs at a smaller angle to the axis (3) of the tool head (8) than the straight generating line (14) of the stepless outer surface (11). <IMAGE>
