A motor cycle whose frame (1) has front and rear telescopic suspensions (2, 6 and 3, 7) which are connected to the axles of the two wheels (4, 5) is provided with a vertical adjustment system which has a high-pressure air container (18) which is connected to the two telescopic suspensions and fed from an air pump (19) which is driven by a motor (20) which itself receives current from a battery (23). A movable contact (25) which is driven by the tachometer of the motor cycle interacts with a fixed contact (26) when the motorcycle is either stationary or travelling at low speed and this movable contact closes a circuit which causes venting valves (10, 11) to be opened in order to let the air out of the telescopic suspensions (2, 3). Solenoid valves (16, 17) at the same time vent the container (18) via non-return valves (14, 15). If the motor cycle is ridden at a relatively high speed, the movable contact (25) interacts with a second fixed contact (27), as a result of which the engine (20) starts up and drives the pump (19) so that the container (18) is filled with compressed air. The venting valves (10, 11) are closed and the rise in pressure lifts up the frame of the motor cycle until a predetermined pressure is obtained in the system, which pressure actuates two pressure-dependent switches (12, 13) in order to close the valves (16, 17) and keep the engine (20) running. <IMAGE>
