The drawing unit (1) for a spinning machine (5), with a sliver (71) condensing stage (3), has a condenser (31) with passage openings in the air-permeable zone. A particularly smooth film (31a) with a perforation is at the zone with the passage openings. The sliver condensing unit, to condense drawn sliver, has clamps which secure the film at the tubular structure of the condenser. The condenser is cylindrical, with its circumference wholly covered by a film or film sections butted together. The film clamps are fitted with projections, burls, pins and the like, to engage openings through the film or apertures at the condenser. The film perforations are holes, closely packed together, preferably circular with a maximum diameter of 1 mm. The condenser perforations are closely packed holes, preferably with a rectangular contour and separated by ribs around the condenser towards the condenser axis. The condenser and its film cladding has a roller drive (33,35), or it is rotated by a drive at its axis. A suction system (37) is within the condenser, with a suction slit at the condenser and film perforations, or it has two suction slits in succession in the peripheral direction of the condenser. The end of one suction slit overlaps an end of the other suction slit. Each suction slit has its own suction chamber, with a dividing wall between them to allow different pressures in each chamber.
