<p>The reel comprises a U-shaped frame, fixed to the vehicle body and holding the belt spindle and its associated inertia-type locking ratchet. Bearing surfaces are provided for the spindle, in the sides of this frame. This spindle is made from a flat steel strip, rolled to a C-shape (8), with a longitudinal split (9) down one side. This metal core is embedded in a moulded plastics outer cover (12), to provide smooth bearing surfaces to match those in the frame. End plugs (24) are fitted to carry the inertia lock.</p> |
