The balance having electromagnetic force compensation possesses two weighing ranges, a switch (28'') making it possible to switch to the zero point of the finer weighing range at any point within the coarser weighing range, whereupon the entire fine range having the higher indicating resolution is in each case available once again. The non-linearities of the balance characteristic are substantially greater in the upper load range than in the lower load range. Moreover it is desirable to have not only a fine range with a variable zero point, but also a middle range with a constant zero point. In the light of these two aspects, there is additionally present a switch (64), by means of which a change-over can be made to a third weighing range which is greater than the above-mentioned finer range, but which has a higher indicating resolution than the coarser range. <IMAGE>
