Stiffened plates for shipbuilding and aircraft construction - by hot or cold profile rolling of suitable metal plates

Rolling together with the controlled supply of heat is used to form profile plates which have considerable rigidity. In special cases, dependent upon the type of material and its thickness, a cold rolling process may be used. The stiffened plates can be used in place of shipbuilding plates to which profiles are welded or for the components of aircraft milled from solid blocks. Welding, glueing and milling operations are eliminated and the profiled plates are produced much more cheaply.
