Wedge action fastener for car seat belts - has slotted female element rotatable by axial force on male element

The fastener uses a male plate element (302) which enters a housed slotted (310) female element, and uses female rotation produced by axial make retraction forces to effect wedge-locking. The release mechanism permits the male plate to slide out of the female in a direction (308) perpendicular to the insertion direction, with the directions of insertion (304) and release (308) both lying in the plate plane. The fastener may be used on automobile seat belts in which case release is effected directly by hand.
