<p>1501714 Cartons MEAD CORP 10 Nov 1975 [15 Nov 1974] 46416/75 Heading B8P To ensure that bottles having tapered neck portions are held tightly in a container, the container has inwardly sloping upper side wall portions 48 and webs 19 in lower end flaps 9. The base 1 also has an extra score 2 parallel to a score 43 between the side and base walls to enable a second row of bottles to be packed into the container whereupon the side, top, and bottom walls are tightened around the bottles. The container is formed to tubular form from a blank, has hand holes 27, 62 in its top wall and weakened portions 69, 70 in each upper side wall to enable the container to be opened and bottles removed. End panels 3, 34, 65 are glued over end flaps 9, 15, 44, 50 after filling the container. The two top panels 25, 60 are glued together and crease lines 28, 29, 63, 64 allow the top panels to take the weight of a loaded container without tearing the hand holes. In another embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), a hole is cut in the web 19 and an additional crease line (50C) is made in the top end flap 15, this facilitates machine assembly.</p> |
