1473356 Fortimicin A ABBOTT LABORATORIES and KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO Ltd 22 July 1974 [23 July 1973] 32365/74 Heading C2C The novel antibiotic Fortimicin A, having a molecular weight of 405, a molecular formula of C 17 H 35 N 5 O 6 and an optical rotation [α]<SP>25</SP> D of +26‹ (C=0À2, H 2 O) and believed to have the following structure is produced by culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Micromonospora having the ability to produce said antibiotic (e.g. at 25-40‹ C. and approximately neutral pH). Specified strains are Micromonospora olivoasterospora ATCC 21819 (FERMP 1560), 31009 and 31010. Also claimed are the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts of Fortimicin A and specified acids are HCl, HBr, HI, H 2 SO 4 , sulphamic, phosphoric, maleic, acetic, citric, oxalic, succinic, benzoic, tartaric, fumaric, malic, mandelic and ascorbic acids.
